The puzzle is called Frownies but there are some smiley faces in the mix, so perhaps they don't belong? If you remove the smileys you are left with this:

Removing all the smiley faces produces the letters THE in the top-left corner! Perhaps each symbol can be removed to reveal a word?

Adding back the smiley faces and then removing each other type of face in turn reveals the following:

The letters revealed in each case form six words that can be arranged to make a reasonable clue:

This is a reference to PETER PAN, who is the answer.
