The Print Enabler Card

Copepa Development

Copepa was first released for the CLC320 and 900-series at the end of 1998 with support for Windows 95 and 98 only.

By mid-1999 support for Windows NT had been added while the newer CLC1100-series copiers were supported in a release at the start of 2000.

Support for Windows 2000 was provided in September 2000.

Scanning was introduced in July 2001.

The current series, released in July 2002, provides support for Win XP.

Building upon CiSRA's emerging rendering technologies, the Copepa product was conceived and created to provide a cheap, fast and high-quality Colour Laser Copier (CLC) printing solution for the fast-growing business market.

Copepa generates a page description language (in OpenPage, a CiSRA development language) from any Windows application; this is then rendered using hardware acceleration via the Print Enabler PCI card which incorporates another CiSRA development, the 'Star' ASIC. This high-speed rendering allows print jobs to be output by the CLC at the copier's engine speed, allowing efficient and fast printout.

The Copepa system is a server PC running either Windows 95/98, NT, 2000 or XP and attached to one or more CLCs using a Copepa card and a 100-way cable for each copier. The server may be connected to a network to enable other Windows PCs to print to the CLC just as if it were an ordinary colour printer.

Copepa comes in three forms:
  • The 'Print Enabler Card-A1' provides connectivity to the older CLC320 and CLC900-series copiers.
  • The more recent 'Print Enabler Card-B1' provides connectivity to the CLC1100-series copiers.
  • The latest version is the 'Print Enabler Card-B2', which provides access to the copier's scanner.
Both earlier models of hardware use the same software on the server PC and the client PCs. The B1 card is also backward-compatible, enabling older copiers to be connected to the newer card.
