Color Conversion

OpenPage provides complete control and coordination of color spaces. Input color spaces, the output device color space, and the color space in which rendering operations are performed are all independent. Fast, accurate mappings are applied automatically to relate colors in all of these spaces. All color mappings are completely general. They may be any reasonably smooth function, either numerically sampled or an analytic computation. They may be directly drawn from ICC profiles.
All mappings can include full "cross channel" effects and adjustments. It is possible, for example, to affect the red of an RGB color space based on values in the blue and green channels.
Unless otherwise instructed, OpenPage performs all rendering operations in CIE L*a*b* color space. This achieves consistent results with a minimum of conversion errors. Scanners and printers can be calibrated with a straightforward procedure which ensures output colors are consistent between devices (within the limitations of their gamut), and that scanned material is also reproduced accurately.
